Ok, welcome we have a spectrum analyzer here and what it does is it takes this sound from my microphone and shows you a spectrum graph just like light but it shows you how much power there is at the different frequencies of the sound and so i want to show you what a musical note looks like so i'm going to start by whistling a note
ok, and so you can see it was basically all at one frequency, and if i whistle different notes, you'll see them peak at different frequencies ok, so with a musical instrument then you find that you have the fundamental frequency, the frequency you hear but then it's also mixed with a whole bunch of higher harmonics, sets of that frequency and that combination of frequencies is what makes the note sound really good and so i'm going to turn off my microphone and play something on the saxophone so so
